There was definitely a lot of Christmas cheer in the air during the 2020 Winter Fest Parade of Lights on December 5th down Main Street in Alturas. This years parade featured dozens of colorful and breath-taking lighted exhibits that made their way from the Veteran's Memorial Park down to 8th Street in Alturas.
This year's event did not include the public gathering at the Main Street Park due to the ongoing pandemic and social gathering restrictions in place within our County. So instead, the Alturas Chamber of Commerce decided to add a "Winter Fest Cruise" so people could witness the lighting of our town Christmas Tree while they cruised the "Strip".
The blessing of the tree and lighting ceremony was instead broadcast on local radio station KCNO 94.5 FM, hosted by radio personality Harry Boulade, which was heard over the cruisers car radio's as they passed by. The one-hour show also included Christmas tunes and special dedications for all the cruisers that participated in the event. The heart-warming blessing was given by Modoc County Sheriff Tex Dowdy who did a wonderful and timeless speech about patriotism and freedom. The Sheriff's Office also featured their hilarious lighted exhibit into the parade which was to the theme of "Batman and the Joker". Please view the photo's below of this years event. Enjoy!!
